Biography
Esther De Angelis is a woman of passion and colour who believes that each of us has a powerful creative gift to explore and share with the world. She is of the opinion that creativity unleashes hitherto undiscovered forces and resources within and that aliveness and imagination is key to the evolution, human connection and community that will serve us all in this 21st century.

Her journey of art and personal transformation began 20 years ago after a brief career as an accountant. Since then she has combined her practice as a Visionary Artist and creative disciplines such as dance and music, with personal growth modalities such as visionary and creativity coaching, hypnotherapy and the teaching of yoga.

She has an extensive knowledge and experience of art practices from silversmithing to furniture making, from ceramic sculpture to pastels, from printmaking to digital montage. Her work has evolved to reflect her own spiritual journey and discovery, examining themes such as psychology and the power of the mind to torment and exploring the archetypes of good and evil and the idea of the 'shadow. She's also researched world cosmologies and depicted visions she has had in the vision questing of shamanism and journeying in Kabbalah.

As a yoga teacher her work has also focused on the grace of the human body and the idea of balance within the body leading to equanimity in the mind. She completed her MA in Fine Art and Media Practise in 2009, which saw her revisiting the ancient paleolithic goddesses of old, while once again expressing her fascination with colour and pattern and the healing system of the chakras through a series of 'living mandala' installations. Her love of music has also shaped her artistic journey and as a consequence she has added sound installation, video and performance art to her repetoire.

How it all Began

Esther started creating art cars in her 40th year where an accidental break to her ankle became the catalyst for her to break with tradition and courageously transform her and her husband's car, a white Ford Sierra. After a period of 6 months of working outside on the street in all weathers, the Chakra Car was birthed. In the process she became the centre of a fascinated community in Hampstead, and of course was particularly popular with children on their drive to school. She has now created three art cars to date, all of which have been seen regularly on London's streets and across the UK. She is convinced that without her Glowing Goddess Nissan Micra she wouldn't be driving at all - " It just makes travelling along London's busy and stress-filled streets so much more pleasurable when you get such joyful feedback, which is why I would love to see more art cars on the road."

Esther beleves that creating art is a magical act. That colour, texture, shape and rhythm in art can have a profound effect on our well being. She arrives at her work through a process similar to meditative journeying, her body and senses fully alive and present in the moment. Esther is therefore committed to working with very loose structures at times so that she has the freedom to experiment and improvise. Similarly she designed her art car, Glowing Goddess without drawings or plans, preferring to see how it evolved organically. And this is the reason why she loves the idea of spontaneously 'dressing up' cars for the day - knowing herself how resourceful we can all be when we don't have much time to 'think' about it.

She has exhibited her work across the world, from countries such as Thailand and India, to Mexico, Germany and the UK. Having launched her own corporate art scheme with her old firm of chartered accountants in the city, she subsequently sold much of her work to companies in the 90's. Her Art Car, Joycatcher, an exuberant Ford Sierra, has been making waves since she was inspired to create it in 2002. Esther's second Art Car, Glowing Goddess made history when she participated in the first ever Art Car Parade in the UK, staged in Manchester to phenomenal success. Her car was highly commended by the judges. She then was invited to be part of the first ever Illuminated Art Car Parade in Blackpool in September of 2007– an amazing experience she will never forget.

Experience with the Carnival Arts

Esther also had the most incredible experience working with Kinetika and Mahogany, two of the UK's most successful Carnival Arts Companies. She worked on costumes for the Special Olympics 2009 and Nottinghill Carnival and designed and made her own costume, The Money Matrix with Kinetika which was lit for the extraordinary Thames Night Carnival as part of the famous Thames Festival. All of which has equipped her with the much needed know-how of how to manage large creative projects with up to 90 participants, how to enroll other artists in developing their ideas and creating around a particular theme but most important of all, how to make an event truly spectacular!
